Lydia Anderson-Dana Helps Uphold Washington County’s Flavored Tobacco Ban in Oregon Supreme Court Decision

On May 7, 2026, the Oregon Supreme Court ruled in favor of Washington County in a closely watched case involving the county’s flavored tobacco sales ban. The Court held that Oregon’s statewide Tobacco Retailer Licensure laws do not preempt Washington County’s ordinance restricting the sale of flavored tobacco products, allowing the ordinance to remain in effect. Lydia Anderson-Dana filed an amicus brief on behalf of numerous public health organizations, including the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, American Heart Association, Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, and Truth Initiative, supporting Washington County’s position before the Court.
